5 Questions for a Successful Home Remodel Project This Year

If you are considering any type of renovation for your home this year, take the time to ask all the right questions before you start so that you’ll be happy with the outcome.  What are you looking to accomplish with your home remodel project? Are you looking to add more efficiency in your kitchen or contemplating a much needed update to your master bathroom? Are you looking to create a space for the kids to kick back and be a kid? Maybe you’re looking for a way to add natural light into your home to enhance your mood. Whatever the reason, make sure you ask yourself these 5 questions ….

5 Questions for a Successful Home Remodel Project This Year:

  1. What do we WANT?  For example, a “modern” kitchen…a “usable” bathroom…a new roof installation…a new deck installation…etc.
  2. WHY do we want it? Don’t lose sight of this…When you start a remodel project, you will face challenges–that is certain.  However, how you decide to tackle or adapt your plans to these challenges should never compromise the original project goal.  If you wanted a more functional kitchen for feeding the kids or entertaining…make sure you keep your mental (and financial) focus on the goal as best you can.
  3. How will we pay for it?  Do yourself a favor and ask this question early to control (or expand) the scope of your remodel…if you are approved for credit, maybe you can do MORE…
  4. Who do we want to do the work? Ask friends and family if they have a contractor that they can recommend. Be sure to get several estimates and thoroughly vet your contractor.
  5. When would we like it to be done? Timing is everything. For example, if you are remodeling your kitchen, you’ll need to make sure you won’t be doing any entertaining during construction.
